The Loudon County Democrats have found a new home on Grove Street as they prepare for the upcoming election season.

Sitting just across the street from the Loudon County Courthouse, the new space is acting as a home base as candidates locally and across the state attempt to make strides in one of the most consistently Republican-governed counties in Tennessee. State Senate candidate David Miller, State Representative Candidate Ali Simpson were amongst the crowd of local County Commission and Board of Education Candidates.

The party, which recently joined the Loudon County Chamber of Commerce, is looking to get more involved in the local community and for longer periods of time. Local leaders told The Connection that where previous election cycles would see a ‘home base’ established for just three months, this new space will be occupied by the party for nine. The visibility is paying off, said Beki Lincks, Chairman of the Loudon County Democrats, as the party has the most candidates running in an election this year since 1980.

“One of the reasons democrats don’t come to the polls is because they often don’t have anyone to vote for,” Lincks said. “It didn’t matter how many people they had to vote for, the republicans were more established. But we’re hoping to level the playing field here, and we have a voice too.”

On top of that, the recent migration trends into the state have certainly helped, Lincks added.

“A lot of people from Chicago, people from California are coming here,” Lincks said. “That’s going to change the dynamics of both parties.”
