Poplar Springs Boat Ramp off State Road 444 in Tellico Village will be closed until noon Saturday.

Fire departments from throughout Loudon County, along with the Loudon County Emergency Management Agency, will be conducting highly specialized training in the parking lot and at the ramp.

The Poplar Springs lot and ramp will be closed to all traffic to accommodate fire apparatus and equipment.

In the event of a significant emergency in Loudon County, fire departments cannot rely solely on municipal water supplied through fire hydrants. House fires can require more than 100,000 gallons of water to extinguish. Brush, forest, farmland and some electric vehicle fires can require 60,000-80,000 gallons.

Local rivers and lakes provide fire departments with virtually an unlimited supply of water, assuring firefighters do not overburden the municipal water system while providing a safety for the community. Knowing how to properly use those water resources requires training.
