“I just think, you know, it's an unfortunate event, but I'm thankful for our employees, for our police department, and so it's something that we take seriously,” said Mayor Conger.
It was a scary day for the Jackson Community Tuesday as officers from the Jackson Police Department locked down City Hall.
This was due to a threat being made to harm City employees. Fortunately, the suspect was taken into custody without anyone being harmed.
The suspect has now been identified as James Andrew Farmer, 46. Farmer is known for being one of the defense attorneys for Austin Drummond. He is also the son of former mayor of Jackson Charles Farmer.
As for what the threat was, police have not yet released that information, as charges are currently pending.
Mayor Conger said that he feels that the building is protected and that other parts of the city will not be sacrificed for just City Hall.
“You know, I'd say that we're protected. We have an officer out front. We have a downtown designated officer, and so what we're not going to do is we're not going to sacrifice the coverage in other parts of our city just for one building,” Mayor Conger said.
At this time, the investigation still remains active, but the city and the police have said that safety for everyone in the community still remains as their highest priority.
