Christa Pike is struggling to adjust to prison life following her release from a Nashville hospital after a botched execution attempt.
In a personal declaration filed alongside an emergency motion, Pike expressed serious concerns regarding her health and well-being, noting that she has already required one emergency room return visit and is being forced to clean a roach-infested shower, which poses a high risk of infection and further injury given her weakened state.
She is currently housed alone in the prison infirmary, spending all her time in isolation except during meetings with her legal counsel.
While Pike is seeking reintegration with the general population to participate in group meals, classes, and recreation, she argues it would be dangerous to return to her previous pod, which houses inmates with histories of violence.
Describing herself as too physically weak to defend herself or escape an attack, Pike has requested an alternative placement to protect her safety. Her legal team emphasized that the emergency motion aims to end her daily isolation, and a judge has set a November 4 deadline for the defense to respond, followed by a November 6 deadline for Pike's legal team to reply.
