Bluestem Hollow is seeking chili cooks to compete in their first annual Fall Festival and Chili Cook Off.

The rain-or-shine event, located at 7085 Morganton Road in Greenback, will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 6. Jenn Barry, the farm store manager, was inspired to host the event as a means to get the community together for a fun competition during National Chili Month.

The farm’s chef will also be on grill serving up a few of his specialties — including meatloaf sandwiches. Vendors slated to be there include: Heather Palm Jewelry, Gentry Family Farm, Harper’s Custom Creations, Miriam Maker’s Designs & Delights, Simple Goat Soaps, JT’Z Beez Apiary, The Fudge Lady, Nan’s Bird Realty, Glory Farm Knox, Beaded Items with Teresa, Black Bear Relics and Remedies, Sweetwater Valley Dog Rescue, Linda’s Homemade Embroidery, Artworks by Kim, Kosmic Goddess, Ready to Fly and CFinley Art.

While entrance is free, chili tastings for guests — who can cast votes for the first chili “G.O.A.T” Greenback champion — are $2. Live music will be performed by 45 RPM.

The winner will receive a trophy and a gift card to the farm’s store. Contestants, who may sign up online at bluestemhollow.com through Oct. 2, may bring one crock pot-sized batch of chili to the event. A $20 entry fee will go toward the fixings, tasting cups and grand prize.

Owned by Shona and Chris Burger, Bluestem Hollow is a 350-acre farm with hiking trails, a butcher shop and a farm store with local items, meat and produce.

Since 2007, the farm has grown food through regenerative agriculture, which is a conservation and rehabilitation approach that focuses on topsoil regeneration, increasing biodiversity, improving the water cycle, enhancing ecosystem services and strengthening the health and vitality of farm soil.

Outside of the event, the farm also offers a field trip farm experience, which includes a walking trail scavenger hunt and small pumpkin to take home for $5 per child. Call or text 865-424-0077 to schedule.
