An inmate of the Loudon County Sheriffs Office attempted to forcibly take a facility nurse hostage on the morning of April 24.

The incident occurred in an exam room at the Loudon County Detention Facility, where the inmate, Daniel Aaron Stinnett, was able to close himself inside of the room with a facility nurse for a brief period of time. A list of agencies including Corrections, Patrol SWAT Deputies as well as Loudon and Lenoir City Police Department Officers all assisted in making entry into the exam room without further injury to either party.

LCSO officials told the News-Herald that the nurse was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for injury and has since been released, and the department’s Criminal Investigations Division is opening an active investigation regarding the incident.

Stinnett, 36, has a preexisting charge for violation of probation, and will now face more charges including attempted murder and aggravated kidnapping. The inmate database for LCSO has his bond listed at $1,000,000 as of April 27.
