TELLICO VILLAGE — Since 2010, the Kiwanis Club of Tellico Village has been helping with the therapeutic needs of children with disabilities from families unable to afford this expensive equipment.
The solution Kiwanis provides to the child is an Amtryke therapeutic tricycle. Each Amtryke is individually designed to help meet that particular child’s challenges.
This October, the Club presented an Amtryke to King — an “amazing” 3-year-old who has cerebral palsy and uses a walker. King is the youngest of nine children and was ready to ride with his siblings.
His physical therapist Scott Keaton showed him how to work the tricycle, and King proved to be a quick learner! His whole face lit up when he started to ride.
King was cheered on by his father Randy, mother Farrell, his siblings, physical therapist … and the Kiwanis Club members in attendance.
As of this October 2024, the Kiwanis Club of Tellico Village has presented 86 tricycles valued at approximately $42,000 to children who are courageously living with disabilities affecting their motor skills and strength.
Kiwanis of Tellico Village was the first service organization established in Tellico Village, and the local Club celebrated its 25th anniversary on March 16 of this year.
Among some — but not all — of the other projects the Kiwanis of Tellico Village organization has led the way on and/or has supported in the past quarter of a century are the “Buddy Benches” initiative, the Back to School Clothing Program, Kindergarten Registration and Teachers’ Supplies, Cold Weather Coats for Children, Friends of TN Babies w/special needs, Get Your Selfie 2 School, Good Neighbors Shoppe, Good Samaritan Center, Habitat for Humanity, Iva’s Place, Loudon High School Key Club, Kids First/Child Advocacy Center, Robotics in the Classroom, Special Olympics, STAR Riding Academy, Trout in the Classroom, Weekend Food 4 Kids and more.
