The Tellico Village Lions Club’s annual golf outing and tournament, which took place May 7 at Toqua Golf Course, saw the most teams participate and the most funds raised than any previous competition.

Fifty-five local businesses contributed more than $10,000 in donations and 45 businesses gave more than $3,000 in prizes that were awarded during the tournament.

“This will go a long way to supporting the various club service projects,” Larry Elder, Lions Club sponsor coordinator, said.

Chilly weather greeted golfers at the start of the event, but by the afternoon temperatures rose into the mid-70s.

The winning men’s team was Ben Robinson, Nick DeLaura, Les Fout and Kevin Kirby, while Jackie Trombley, Elyse Papke, Linda Maillet and Lucie Farrar were the victors in the women’s category. The winning mixed team was Linda Romero-Mezza, Bob Mezza, Susan Heinzman and Dennis Heinzman.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Ken Moore and Teresa Reed. Kevin Kirby won the longest-drive competition from the regular tee, while John Fuchs was the senior tee longest-drive winner. Linda Maillet was the longest-drive winner on the women’s side at the regular tee, and Linda Romero-Mezza won the senior tee longest drive.
