During the past 16 years, the Tellico Village Lions Club has raised and dispersed more than $250,000 to a variety of charitable and service organizations in Tellico Village, Loudon County and East Tennessee, with the bulk of the funds raised with the support of Village residents at chili dinners, the annual Oktoberfest and other fundraisers.
Members of the Lions Club decided to return more of this largesse to the Village in the form of four exercise stations that have been purchased and are being donated to the Village, according to the club. The stations have been assembled and installed at strategic locations around the recently completed walking trail at the Wellness Center.
Benches for each station will be assembled and installed during the next several weeks. Once the benches are in place, a ceremony will be held for the Lions Club to turn over the stations to the Tellico Village Property Owners Association.
The stations are unique because they were designed by a firm that specializes in exercise equipment for seniors, club member Bruce Johnson said.
“These are not for the 28-year-old hard body fitness freaks but rather for the 68-year-old who is trying to maintain a measure of fitness befitting their health and overall physical condition,” Johnson said.
