Carol DeForest, manager with The Public Library at Tellico Village, has announced that the library will extend its hours to 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays beginning July 9 for a six-month trial basis.

The library will also host  health lectures on various topics 7-8 p.m. at least one Thursday each month.

The lectures will feature local professionals from a range of specialties, including orthopedic surgery, Alzheimer’s disease, physical therapy, eye, heart, urology, allergy, dermatology and vascular surgery disorders. Each presentation will be followed by a question and answer period, and library materials on the night’s topic will be available for checkout after each lecture.

DeForest said the aim of the lectures is to increase health literacy in the community, and the lectures are intended to engage people in learning more about health topics relevant to their needs and interests.
