Reserved seating is $21, and tickets are available at http://www.tellicocommunityplayhouse.org.
Deathtrap holds the record as the longest-running thriller-comedy on Broadway. It won a Tony Award in 1978 and was adapted into a movie in 1982 starring Christopher Reeve, Michael Caine and Dyan Cannon.
The storyline follows Sidney Bruhl, who is played by Len Willis, a successful playwright who has hit a long period without a hit production. Bruhl’s former student, Clifford Anderson, played by Tommy Parria, asks his mentor to review a play he has written, which Bruhl recognizes immediately as a potential smash hit. He hatches a plot to steal the young man’s play and produce it as his own.
The plot includes murders, physical struggles, extrasensory perception predictions, body hiding and a surprise ending.
Carol Lessnau plays Sidney’s wife, Myra Bruhl, Amber Henry plays psychic Helga Van Dorp and Vern Russell plays Sidney’s attorney Porter Milgrim.
Deathtrap is directed by veteran drama teacher and actor Joan Dorsey, who has directed a number of the Players’ productions, including “Opal’s Husband” and “Bus Stop.” Deathtrap is produced by Tony Licata, who starred in the Players’ December production of “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
