The Tellico Village Lions Club is in final preparations for its annual golf outing that will be held beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. May 9 at Toqua Golf Course.
The format will be best ball after all players hit from either the white tees for men or the green tees for women. After the drive, each player will hit from the best ball location up to and including putting. Senior tees may be used for an age-plus-handicap index of 90 or more.
The club still has room for more foursomes that can be formed as either all male, all female or mixed. Prizes will be awarded to the best scoring foursomes in all these categories.
In addition to team prizes, individual contests for men and women for closest to the hole, longest drive and most accurate drive will be held. A car will also be available for golfers who score a hole-in-one on one of the four par three holes on the course.
Entry fees are $40 per person for Tellico Village property owners and $75 per person for nonproperty owners. Golfers will have opportunities to enhance scoring by buying mulligans for use throughout the course. The entry fees include a continental breakfast, lunch, a goodie bag and range balls. The goodie bags will be filled with items donated by local businesses.
Registrations are currently being accepted with entry forms located at all Tellico Village clubhouses. Once completed, forms should be mailed to Howard Higby, 107 Tuhdegwa Way, Loudon, TN 37774. For more information, call Higby at 865-458-9356 or e-mail h-m-bowl@charter.net.
In addition to fees raised from the players, numerous local businesses provide support in the form of sponsorships ranging from $100-$1,000. Various benefits in the form of advertising and publicity accrue for sponsors based on their level of support.
All of the funds raised are used to support the variety of service activities the club conducts, including health fairs and vision screenings in local schools to outright grants to organizations both in East Tennessee as well as nationally that work on vision services and general support to indigent members of the community.
In addition to golfers, the club is looking for service-oriented men and women who are interested in joining and serving the community. The only membership requirement is a willingness to serve.
Those interested in joining may visit http://tellico village.tnlions.org to learn more about the club or call or email either of the two membership chairman.
