The annual Tellico Village Beautification Golf Tournament, known as “Superintendents’ Revenge,” is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at the Toqua Golf Course.

The tournament helps fund the upkeep of the many gardens, restrooms, fairways, and landscaped areas surrounding all three Tellico Village golf courses and clubhouses.

The beautification committees—made up entirely of volunteers from the Tellico community—work year round to enhance these spaces. Their efforts include planting shrubs, replacing sod, adding mulch, installing trees, and refreshing flowers to reflect seasonal changes.

These teams routinely roll up their sleeves to keep the courses looking vibrant and welcoming.

The tournament is promoted by the Tellico Village Golf Advisory Committee and is held annually in the early months of the golf season. This time of year, beautifully showcases the colors of spring and early summer in East Tennessee.

At Toqua, tournament players can enjoy blooming jonquils, azaleas, and dogwoods, as well as the butterfly garden and walking trails that offer a peaceful place to stroll later in the day.

At Kahite, the committee replaced the flowers and pots around the clubhouse, markers on the Par 3 holes, and worked on the clock in the patio area.

Tanasi has seen its own improvements by replacing large stones in the Veterans Garden and in areas on the course where weather and time wear away the railroad tie steps.

A Tournament With a Twist

The “Superintendents’ Revenge” format adds a playful challenge to the day. Seventeen holes feature unique obstacles—such as hitting from the back tees, navigating around large equipment, or combining two holes into one to create an exceptionally long drive.

On one hole, players might have to putt on a green with multiple cups and guess which one counts. On another, the flag and cup may be placed inside a sand bunker. These surprises are part of what makes the event a favorite each year.

In addition, Tellico Village Golf showcases the talents of its professional golfers, who may assist teams by providing a drive on Toqua’s longest hole. With average drives exceeding 300 yards, their help can significantly improve scores on the long par five.

Silent Auction, ScratchOff Game, and More

A highlight of the event is the annual silent auction, which often includes paintings, jewelry, golf foursomes, recreation center memberships, dinner cruises, artwork, and themed gift baskets featuring items such as liquor, coffee, bread, gift certificates, and restaurant packages.

For concert lovers, there are tickets to several performances, including soughtafter shows like Beauty and the Beast in downtown Knoxville and Elite Tunes Concert Series events.

Many items will be on display at the Toqua Clubhouse during the week of May 2–9, with the auction closing at 1:00 p.m. on May 9.

A fun new addition is the Fantasy Golf ScratchOff Card, which allows patrons to support beautification efforts in a fun and unique way. Participants scratch off one ball location for each of the 18 holes, total their score, and compete for a sizable Pro Shop credit redeemable at any of the three shops.

A Community Tradition

The tournament will award prizes to three winning teams, but there are many additional games and opportunities to win throughout the day.

This fun, lively, and sometimes “crazy” event is enjoyed each year by players, families, and the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to keep Tellico Village’s gardens beautiful in all four seasons.

Event Co-Chairs Julie Langlas and Bev Blessing expressed her gratitude for the community’s longstanding support and shared their excitement for another successful tournament this year.

Patrons who would like to donate to this event will find donation boxes in all three of the golf course pro shops and will automatically be included in the Fantasy Golf Scratch Off.
