Amedisys Hospice is forming day, evening and weekend training classes to assist terminally ill patients and their caregivers.
Residents 16 years and older can serve as hospice volunteers who visit with patients and their caregivers and perform projects around the home. Hospice volunteers do not provide medical care. Younger volunteers can make cards, decorate rooms and provide other services to brighten the day of patients and their families.
Hospice volunteers can also provide emotional support, assist with family celebrations, help with scrapbooking, conduct photography projects, keep memory books, assist with flower boxes and memory gardens, sew, quilt, crochet, knit, play music, sing, play games or cards, write letters and do other tasks.
To sign up for a class, call or text Martha Dodge, volunteer coordinator, at 877-370-3477 or 423-435-2226 or email martha.dodge@amedisys.com.
