United Way of Loudon County wants to give Tellico Village givers a big “thank you” and kick off the 2016 campaign.
A street party will be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Welcome Center in Tellico Village. Cars old and new from three clubs — the Village Vettes, Classic Legends and Tellico Village Vintage Vehicles — will line the front portion of the Welcome Center parking lot. There will be music, free hot dogs and ice cream.
There will also be information about the United Way of Loudon County and the agencies it supports. Attendees will vote on their favorite cars and prizes will be given to the winning owners.
The fair is designed to thank Villagers who have given in the past and engage people to give them the opportunity to know a little more about the United Way of Loudon County.
Loudon County raised $473,207 last year as a part of the nonprofit’s overall fundraising campaign. Tellico Village was the third-largest giving group, just behind Kimberly-Clark and Tate & Lyle.
Last year, Tellico Village raised $85,080 for the Loudon County campaign, with 14 percent of households giving. The Kahite neighborhood raised $30,000 for United Way of Monroe County with 52 percent of households giving. Through events like the street fair, the campaign committee hopes to raise the number of households participating.
United Way of Loudon County serves 34 partner agencies, including Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesavers, Tellico Village Computer Users Club, Tellico Village Volunteer Fire Department, East Tennessee Kidney Foundation, Girl Scouts, Iva’s Place, Legal Aid of East Tennessee, Loudon County Education Foundation, Helen Ross McNabb Center and the Good Samaritan Center of Loudon County.
“We are so blessed to be able to live in beautiful East Tennessee and Tellico Village,” Susan Higginson, United Way board and campaign committee member, said. “It is good to be able to share with our less fortunate neighbors and make a difference in someone else’s life. Even the smallest gift can make a difference.”
