Tellico Village Singers and Tellico Voices will hold a special video-enhanced concert performance at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Community Church at Tellico Village.
The “Night at the Movies” concert will showcase 18 musical selections and video clips from classic movies of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s such a “The Sound of Music,” “West Side Story” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
“We hope the concertgoers leave the site singing many of the songs as they go to their cars,” Jan Sampson, vice president and founding member of TVS, said.
Singers have rehearsed hundreds of hours since they began working on the production in August. TVS was formed in 2017 and has grown to over 100 members. All of those in the group have auditioned for their roles and the ensemble includes many with a background in the performing arts.
Tellico Voices are a group of 20 accomplished vocal artists that often perform specialized parts of the performances.
“The talent is just amazing,” Sampson said.
Sampson and co-director Jeff Ginnow have invested many hours of video editing and audio synchronizing to seamlessly blend video from popular movies with signature songs from those movies.
Video will be displayed on two large screens and the audio will be mixed with professional quality sound equipment that will enhance the visual and auditory experience. The sound track will be enhanced with the accompaniment of a pianist and violinist.
“The acoustics are amazing,” Sampson said.
The event is a part of Community Church’s 2021-2022 concert series. The church has been host to many previous performances of the Singers.
The performance will be directed by Dennis Loy, a music teacher and director with experience conducting well-known performers at venues, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, throughout the U.S. and abroad. Loy moved to Tellico Village in 2016 with his wife Kathy, who also performs as one of the singers.
Loy will monitor the performance on a video screen to ensure the vocal, audio and video performances are in synchronization.
“Dennis will be making sure we all are right on the beat, keeping us all on track with the video,” Sampson said.
In addition to video and sound, the concert experience will be enhanced by the addition of dancers from Footloose in Tellico, a community dance group that will perform a presentation from the 1984 movie “Footloose.”
This will be the first concert for the Tellico Village Singers and Tellico Voices in two years due to the hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ticket sales have been strong but there are seats remaining for the first show Sunday and a second show Tuesday.
Tickets can be purchased for $10 each at the Community Church at Tellico Village.
