For more than 12 years, Jim West, director of golf with the Tellico Village Property Owners Association, has toured the fairways and greens of Tellico Village’s golf courses and has worked to better understand what his team members and property owners experience as they work at and enjoy golf.
On March 2, the Tennessee Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association recognized West as Professional of the Year for 2014. This comes on the heels of being recognized by the Knoxville Section of the Tennessee PGA as the Professional of the Year.
The Tennessee PGA award is the highest honor given a PGA professional and for West is a culmination of more than 23 years serving as a golf professional for Tellico Village and other golf facilities.
He is now eligible to compete for the national PGA Professional of the Year.
“Congratulations, this is a great thing,” Winston Blazer, POA general manager, said. “I often wondered when you would be recognized for your hard work in the golf profession.”
According to the PGA, potential golf professionals of the year are judged on overall performance, level of service, leadership ability, image and the ability to inspire fellow professionals and the promotion of golf.
