Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey, R-Blountville, recently announced the appointment of state Sen. Randy McNally, R-Oak Ridge, to the Southern Legislative Conference Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations and Human Services and Public Safety committees.

“Chairman McNally’s mastery of fiscal issues is without peer in Tennessee,” Ramsey said. “He is a natural choice to serve, and I am confident that his contributions will elevate the already excellent work of the Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee.”

“Chairman McNally’s interest and experience with crime and public safety issues is also well established,” Ramsey added. “I appreciate his service and am confident he will do an outstanding job on the Human Services and Public Safety Committee.”

The mission of the Council of State Governments’ Southern Legislative Conference is to foster and encourage intergovernmental cooperation among its 15 member states.

The SLC’s Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee focuses on the myriad fiscal issues that impact state budgets and finances.

The committee most recently studied the impact of the federal budget on state finances, revenue forecasting in the 15-member states, health care reform, state fiscal trends, performance-based budgeting, ecommerce and   taxation, the future of Medicare, implications of Social Security Trust Fund reforms and the impact of bank mergers in Southern states.

The SLC’s Human Services and Public Safety Committee has a broad agenda, which typically addresses the challenges states face in the areas of human services and corrections and policies and programs.

McNally is chairman of the state Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee and has sponsored several pieces of public safety legislation, most notably the Channon Christian and Chris Newsom Acts of 2014.
