The Ladies 18 Hole Golf Association of Tellico Village will hold its annual Give Back Day tournament Aug. 16 at Toqua Golf Course, with proceeds benefiting People Protecting Animals Welfare in Greenback.

Cost is $35, which includes lunch at the pavilion after the tournament and a donation to PPAW. The tournament format will be a modified scramble, and the event will include a raffle and door prizes. The entry deadline is Aug. 9.

Recent beneficiaries of the tournament have included Smoky Mountain Service Dogs, which provides helper dogs to wounded veterans, and Project Lifesaver, a program offering tracking bracelets to dementia patients.

People Protecting Animals Welfare, which began in 1991 as an adoption program, currently provides inexpensive spaying and neutering services, vaccinations and testing for low-income pet owners. The organization has spayed and neutered more than 68,000 puppies, dogs, kittens and cats since the sterilization program opened in late 1998.

The nonprofits program, Boots on the Ground, enlists volunteers to go into neighborhoods and help control feral and free-roaming cat populations. Animals are brought to the center for sterilizations and vaccinations and returned to caretakers. The service is free to residents of targeted neighborhoods.
