Sam Maner, an experienced genealogist who helped President George H.W. Bush trace his roots back to Blount County, will offer a four-class workshop for beginners starting this week at The Public Library at Tellico Village.
Each of the four classes will be held 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, Sept. 15, Sept. 22 and Sept. 29. Cost is $100, with a portion of that being donated by Maner to the library. A makeup session can be scheduled if a class is missed.
Maner, who has more than 25 years of experience in genealogy, including working for ancestry.com, served as historian for Sevier County and registrar for the Sons of the Revolution. In addition to working with Bush, Maner has worked with U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and U.S. Rep. John Duncan, R-Tenn., in discovering their ancestral heritage.
The workshop is designed to get residents started tracing your family tree, follow historical lines and interpret records. For more information, call 865-458-5199.
