The cast has been selected for the Tellico Community Players upcoming production of the comedy-drama “Camping with Henry & Tom,” by playwright Mark St. Germain, according to Debbie Mayberry, the play’s director.

John Cherry, Tellico Village Property Owners Association public relations manager, will play auto pioneer Henry Ford, while Tellico Players President Steve Mayberry will play President Warren G. Harding. Vern Russell will perform as Thomas Alva Edison, while Russ Rinehart will appear as secret service agent Col. Edmund Starling.

In 1921, Ford, Edison and Harding took a camping trip together into the Maryland woods to escape civilization. Inspired by an actual event, “Camping with Henry and Tom” is an exploration of friendship, politics and leadership.

“‘Camping With Henry and Tom’ is perfect for this political season,” Mayberry said. “The parallels between our current political scene and those of St. Germain’s 1921 America are incredible. After nearly a century, it just goes to show that the more things change, the more they stay the same.”

The play will be held Oct. 13-15 and Oct. 20-23 at the Tellico Community Playhouse, 304 Lakeside Plaza, Loudon. For more information, visit http://www.tellicocommunityplayhouse.org.
