Joyce Dillenburg and her husband, Steve, created Faces of Tellico, the only medical spa in the area, after moving to Tellico Village and realizing a need to assist those in the community seeking more than a facial from a salon.
Medical spas are operated
by licensed health care professionals who practice in a relaxed atmosphere to guarantee customers not only receive personal beauty care for appearance purposes but to help calm the stresses of life.
Dillenburg began her journey with skin care more than 28 years ago when she used to distribute products for a company in the Cincinnati area.
“People who visit her (Joyce’s) salon will certainly feel better, look better and benefit from her loving touch,” customer Elaine Bonney said. “It is a joy just to know Joyce.”
Dillenburg decided to venture into real estate, working with Fortune 500 companies. She and her family moved to Florida in 2005 where she dealt with corporate relocation. In 2012, she ended her career and moved to Tellico Village.
Dillenburg said that the first day she opened Faces of Tellico, a woman walked through the door and asked, “What is this?” When she explained, the woman said she just needed a facelift. She didn’t believe any of the options Dillenburg offered would work.
Dillenburg told her to try the hydra facial and if in a few days she didn’t like her results, Dillenburg would give the money back to her to use on a facelift elsewhere. The woman agreed, and a few days later she came back with a smile on her face asking to finish the treatments.
“That’s why I do it more,” Dillenburg said. “It’s more to — it makes a difference on the outside but also on the inside.”
Not only do the Dillenburgs offer plenty of discounts and freebies for customers, they refuse to accept gratuity. None of their employees can accept tips, and while that makes hiring difficult, it’s well worth it, Dillenburg said.
Instead of taking tips, a charity jar sits on the checkout table for those interested in donating money to the quarterly cause. The quarterly charity, which will be celebrated 4-6 p.m. on April 28, will be for pancreatic cancer awareness in honor of Sherri Samuels of Tellico Village.
At the end of the quarter, a check is presented to the charity during a celebration, which typically includes wine and appetizers. Customers are invited to join and vote for the next charity. Past charities included Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, First Descents, American Diabetes Association and Smoky Mountain Service Dogs.
The spa offers Jane Iredale skin care and Sanitas anti-aging skin care, which is showcased in Dr. Zien Obagi’s back bar in California, Dillenburg said. Sanitas, located in Colorado, does not spend money on advertisement but on research. All of the spa’s products are biogenic, meaning elements that bodies use naturally.
Hydra facials, microcurrent or resistance training for the face, are also available. Microcurrent resets the muscles in the face naturally.
“It’s amazing. It works on the collagen,” Dillenburg said. “It increases your collagen. It lifts your muscles and that back up. So, we’ve been having a lot of success with that as well now that we have that.”
Faces of Tellico offers hydrating body wraps, waxing and massages as well as Botox injections by Dr. Kevin Stasney.
“I love going to Joyce as she strives to make you feel beautiful inside and out,” Bonney said. “She is as genuinely concerned about one’s health as their looks.”
