The Chota Road project under construction from Tellico Parkway to the entrance into the gas station by the Welcome Center is progressing on schedule.
The four- to six-week project started two weeks ago and has gone smoothly despite excessive rain. The construction crew has taken out all the asphalt and is currently building the new road up, Clayton Taylor, Tellico Village Property Owners Association director of public works, said.
“During the rain event, we had the opportunity to evaluate the drainage culvert on Chota Road after it was exposed,” Taylor said. “Upon further investigation, we decided to replace the culvert due to wear and rust. We are also in the process of installing an 18-inch sleeve under Chota Road for future infrastructure needs.”
This week, weather permitting, a new layer of asphalt will be placed on the road.
“This asphalt layer will be very porous and will ensure that water will not pool or freeze if water does get under the concrete,” Taylor said.
Next week, again weather permitting, the concrete process will begin.
“We are pleased with the progress thus far and still anticipate completion by mid to late January,” he said.
