First, talk a little about your background, whether that be within local government or in your professional career, and how it informs your ability to be a leader in your community.
It has been my pleasure to serve the citizens of Loudon County for the past 26 years, especially the last four as your Road Superintendent. I came to work at the highway department in 2000. I moved through the highway department in various capacities before leaving the department to accept a job in the planning and codes department. In 2012, I was recruited to return to the highway department as assistant road superintendent. When Mr. Simpson decided to retire from road superintendent, I ran, winning the Republican primary in May 2022. In August, I was confirmed in the general election unopposed.
What made you pursue this specific seat, or run for reelection in 2026? Why now?
Once taking office, we began with a veteran staff of terrific, talented, and dedicated members. Loudon County Commissioners quickly supported the administration, supporting the ideas of this administration and encouraging the momentum of the success we expect.
What sets you apart from the candidates you’re currently running against, or makes you the best possible candidate for the seat you are pursuing?
In our first term, we have made more improvements around the county at a pace not seen without debt or an increase in taxes. Your local legislative body and the Tennessee General Assembly made this possible through various funding opportunities.
In this next term, we will continue the ambition to beat the expectations of the public.
In your opinion, what is the biggest issue facing the average Loudon County voter today, or the biggest issue facing your specific constituents?
We have funding challenges ahead with an antiquated funding model through the fuel tax. Currently, I have worked with our state officials closely through various meetings to advocate for our needs locally as they deal with the same issues on the state level. This, coupled with the fact that Loudon County has seen record growth, we must take notice of how things happen moving forward.
Outside of the highway department, it has been great to have a position where we can be involved in the schools. When I took office, I started a STEM Award for middle school students, supporting our award-winning STEM programs in our schools. My family and I have had the pleasure to make scholarships available to high school graduates through the “Road to Success” scholarship. We have also encouraged literacy in our elementary schools with the “Reading Roadtrip”, this is to encourage students to check out a book before spring break.
My family and staff truly appreciate your vote in the May Republican primary. It has been an incredible first term.
