James Richard 'Jim' Rogers

James Richard “Jim” Rogers, 71, of Tellico Village, passed away Dec. 23, 2019. Born and raised in Yonkers, N.Y., he graduated from St. Barnabas Elementary School, Cardinal Spellman High School and Manhattan College in the Bronx where he successfully completed the AFROTC program. As captain in the United States Air Force, he was a missile launch officer in SAC stationed at Whiteman AFB, Mo. While there, he earned an MBA from University of Missouri at Columbia. Before moving to Tellico Village, Jim lived for 25 years in northern Illinois where he was a parishioner of St. Gilbert’s Church in Grayslake and served as Village of Third Lake Trustee from 1997-2015.

In addition to being a FAA Certified Drone Pilot, Jim was a member of the Tellico Lake Tennessee American Legion Post 256. He successfully completed the Loudon County Sheriff's Office Citizens Law Enforcement Academy and earned the “Piraino” Award given to attendees for their dedication to attendance, enthusiasm for learning, eagerness to experience new subjects and willingness to serve others. His interests included military and war memorabilia and spent time sharing his interests with others. For his service in the military, he was awarded a Quilt of Valor by the TVQOV chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Lee Rogers. He survived by his wife of 48 years, Cynthia Ulissi Rogers; mother, Catherine Rogers; siblings, Kathleen Rogers Goldstein (Howard) and Anne Rogers Mezzacappa (Tom); and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at his parish, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Father Ray Powell celebrant. Military honors will be conferred by the Loudon County Veteran Honor Guard. A memorial service will be held in New York at a later date.
