Doug Jensen, of Tellico Village, died peacefully Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at home with his family.
After a 10-week battle with brain cancer, an infection ended his life sooner than expected. During his battle, his faith grew tremendously and his joy was an encouragement to everyone, always reminding them that he was “too blessed to be depressed.”
Doug was born Oct. 7, 1950, in Omaha, Neb., and raised in Bloomington, Minn. He met and married Toby while a student at the University of Minnesota, graduating with a B.S. in civil engineering. His first job with Fegles Power Service as a structural engineer took them to Vancouver, B.C. After two years, he was hired by Cargill, moved back to Minnesota and worked in the grain industry, where he spent the remaining 33 years of his career. His different positions took him and his family from Minnesota to Tennessee to Ohio and back to Minnesota.
Doug retired at age 55 and never looked back! He and Toby loved spending time together golfing, sailing, traveling and were actively involved in all the churches they attended. They moved to Tellico Village in 2008 where they found their dream home on the lake.
Doug loved Tellico life, living on the lake and the many friends he made. But more than that, Doug loved the Lord and his family. Years ago he and Toby decided the best gift they could give their children and grandchildren was time together. Every year they would create memories by finding fun places to take all of them for family vacations. He leaves behind a legacy of faith that will always be remembered along with many wonderful memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Axel and Helen Jensen; and a brother, Brad Jensen.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 49 years, Toby; son, Jesse and Heidi Jensen; daughter, Tracy and Joe Sprout; grandchildren, Caleb, Sarah, Rachel and Julia Jensen and Jaiden, Will and Hailee Sprout; two brothers, Gary Jensen (Kathleen) and Ron Jensen (Wendy); a sister, Nancy and Bill Gudim; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at First Baptist Church in Tellico Village. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Since Doug had a personal interest in the "Our Place" Alzheimer/Dementia Care Center, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made in either of the following ways:
• Make a donation to "Ride to Remember" and mail it to First Baptist Church in Tellico Village, 205 Chota Road, Loudon, TN 37774, or drop it off at the church office.
• Be a ride sponsor. Forms and details are available at office at First Baptist Church in Tellico Village.
